From nursing her infant to feeling for her dead husband's pulse — that was Jessica Ayers's reality eight years ago when her husband, Justin, was killed instantly by a stray bullet.
On June 17, 2014, Jessica and Justin Ayers were home with their new baby for less than 24 hours when a drunk convicted felon fired a gun from over 200 yards away. The bullet struck Justin in the head and killed him instantly — this moment transformed Jessica from new mom to new widow.
Eight years later, she's sharing her story to help others going through similar circumstances. Her book: Your Partner Is Dead, Now What? is her guide through trauma, grief, depression, and tragedy.
Coupled with two grief therapists, her book shares private stories about what she faced during her darkest moments and offers advice to anyone in the throes of partner-related grief.
Jessica is using the book launch as an opportunity to give back to the organization that provided her with solace in her time of need. Her party will kick-start a new fund in her husband's name (The Justin Ayers Memorial Fund) at the Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center.
Her book release party, "It's All Happening," will take place on May 26, 2023, at 6:30 in the evening at Bay Arts Alliance.
Tickets for the event are $10 a head for general admission and $50 for VIP. All tickets include light hors d'oeuvres, adult beverages, live music from The Surfing Violinist, a live painting by local artist Steven Mincey, a book reading and signing from the author, a champagne toast, and a chance to win many fantastic prizes (guitar, local art, hundreds in gift cards to local restaurants and activities from Palm Pilates to Shipwreck Island)
