PANAMA CITY BEACH — Area bed tax collectors are reporting bigger and better bookings for 2012, trumping last year's benchmark tourist season. "Obviously the Fourth of July is the busiest week of the year for us, but we're actually ahead of last year and last year was phenomenal," said Marty McDaniel, president of Oaseas Resorts in Panama City Beach. "All of the indicators in the industry are pointing in the right direction." The Bay County Tourist Development Council (TDC) reported a 25 percent increase in bed tax collections for May over the prior year, marking 14 straight months of collection increases, a trend that represents the longest period of sustained lodging revenue growth since the agency's inauguration. Oaseas, one of the biggest bed tax collectors in Bay County, operates nine properties from Panama City Beach to Destin, with the bulk of their 1,000 units in the Panama City Beach area.
