Beachy Beach September Love Note
(Originally published September 19, 2017)
Have you ever thought about all that goes into all those gorgeous trees that we see that provide a canopy of shade, color, fruit and all manner of things that we had NOTHING to do with but we get to enjoy them? Someone, somewhere at sometime was kind enough to plant a seed knowing that they were creating something for our future. It all starts with a seed, a thought, an idea and then you water, add light and trust….. Much like our lives.
It is funny that the seed itself can be so very small and you can have a massive Sequoia that can measure twenty feet wide and three hundred feet tall. You can plant a little seed that will only produce a small tree but it is really in the planting. You really do reap what you sow. And the beauty for all of us is that we have reaped what others have sown for us and it is up to us to do the same.
I love this story from The Circle Maker:
TOWARD THE END OF HIS LIFE, HONI THE CIRCLE MAKER WAS WALKING DOWN A DIRT ROAD WHEN HE SAW A MAN PLANTING A CAROB TREE. HONI QUESTIONED HIM. "HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE THIS TREE TO BEAR FRUIT?" THE MAN REPLIED, 'SEVENTY YEARS.' HONI SAID, ' ARE YOU QUITE SURE YOU WILL LIVE ANOTHER SEVENTY YEARS TO EAT IT S FRUIT" THE MAN REPLIED, 'PERHAPS NOT. HOWEVER, WHEN I WAS BORN INTO THE WORLD, I FOUND MANY CAROB TREES PLANTED BY MY FATHER AND GRANDFATHER . JUST AS THEY PLANTED TREES FOR ME. I AM PLANTING TREES FOR MY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN SO THEY WILL BE ABLE TO EAT THE FRUIT OF THESE TREES.
Our lives are so much more than what we can see, it is in the planting and the praying after what we planted. It is the trusting that our lives are designed to give more than we get. I have seen it true that I have been the recipient of so much more than I have ever produced. If I am looking for an instant gratification for myself I am left with an empty feeling but if I plant, sew seeds for others, water them with my kindness and my prayers and my love I will produce enough life for myself and others. It is a spiritual law than I can not circumvent.
The very nature of seeds and the fruit that lies within is we do it by faith in what we can not see but we trust that it will be there. Just like so many before us have paved the way for a lovely life, I am thankful that I can do the same. My challenge for us this week is to sow seeds in the lives of others and especially in those that can do nothing for us in return. When we sow these seeds we will reach a level of joy that is hard to imagine.
Many of you have sown seeds in my life and my life is abundant and full and overflowing because of you.
With the greatest of love and joy,
Karen
