Beachy Beach April Love Note
(Originally published April 26, 2016)
Dear Amazing, Most Wonderful, Most Precious BB's,
I have a friend who calls himself the "Original Roy," and he calls me "Mrs. Huggersmith!!" Why the Original Roy? He is the father of another great and talented friend, Roy Jr. Every time he says this, I have to laugh, and it sets the tone for a very sweet and fun engagement. Every time I see him I feel better about myself because I am, in fact, Karen Huggersmith because he says I have the best hugs!!!
What you think about yourself and others is really a wonderful self-fulfilling prophecy. How you see yourself and others is the way that your day and your life will go. If you see yourself as a kind and loving person, then chances are these are the actions that you will convey to others. If you see others in the same light, so it shall be. It sets a butterfly effect that has an endless reach.
I also had a Mary Kay director, Mary Papciak, who always answered the phone in this fashion: Why is this the most amazing, most adventurous, the most adorable, and high producing Karen Smith? I, of course, with laughter in my heart would answer back; "Why yes of course it is!" Even on a day when you may not feel those things, when you hear it and take it in, it becomes who you are. It is almost impossible to continue to be downtrodden when others are lifting you up and when you, in turn, are doing the same for others. In doing so with such a simple gesture, you are being a servant and a steward for others.
We had an event about a week ago to honor the mayor, and while we were there, my sweet Jocelyn, who is 5, probably hugged at least 30 people. She would just look up at them and say, I love hugs, and she would hug them tight. It was so sweet to see the faces of the people who she gave the hugs! I could see in their face that when they received her kindness, it was reflected back in how they reacted to the next set of people they would encounter.
What we do every moment of every day in regards to our interaction with people matters so much. We sometimes are the lift, the push the very thing that someone needs to feel better about who they are and where they are going. It is not our job to correct others and make them fly right and do our bidding. It is ONLY our job to share our kindness and our encouragement. Lives are never enlightened through force. They are, however, changed with an ever continual show of love and kindness.
When you call my voicemail you will hear, "Leave me a sweet message." It is funny how many people really stop for a moment, and they do leave me a sweet message. People really do give back to you what you show to them. It is such a magical thing.
I am so thankful for people who have lifted me up when it was needed, and it seems that they just come out of the woodwork. I believe that every hug, smile, and kind word comes back to us tenfold just when we need it the most. My wish for you today is that each and every encounter is a blessing and a joy and that each person leaves your presence with a bounce in their step. What a wonderful world that will be... And so it is.
Grateful,
Karen
