Mayor of Destin, Mel Ponder recently visited the Destin Life Center and met with the movers and shakers in Destin Real Estate from brokers to home inspectors and shared his vision of how they could help build a better Destin.
He opened his presentation with the trailer to the movie "The Miracle", where hockey coach legend Herb Brooks threads together a motley crew of fierce competitors into a unified force for the 1980 American Olympic team. Mayor Ponder mentioned that one of his favorite quotes in the movie was of Coach Brooks saying to his players, "the name on the front, has to be more important than the name on the back."
He related this concept to all the different Realtors, brokers, bankers, title companies, out there, yes they are all in competition in one sense, but in another sense they are a all part of the "Destin family".
Mayor Ponder referred to the group of over 100 as "big players in the business community" and emphasized how important it was for every Real Estate professional involved in the transaction to work together and represent the city of Destin positively, saying "as each part does it's own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole city is healthy and growing."
Mayor Ponder continued to give suggestions to the group of how they could help his vision of "Fostering a culture of family, and furthering a culture of honor" in their business practices and overall life perspective.
He ended with a call to action for all of us Destin Real Estate professionals to think of ways we could operate more like a family of the 32451 zip code we hold so dear.
Many Beachy Beach team members like myself were in attendance, including Jon Lyons, another agent in our Beachy Beach Destin office and Hilary Farnum, one of the owners of our
Beachy Beach Destin office.
We are all eager to continue to discover how we at Beachy Beach Destin can be a part of Mayor Ponder's vision for Destin.
