Food for Thought Outreach collected more food last month at the PB and J Soiree at Beachy Beach Destin Real Estate than they ever have before a any one single event!"This was an amazing out pour of support for our first official collection for the Destin area, we are lucky to collect this much food in a six week drive, much less a couple of hours!" says Tiffanie Shelton, founder of Food for Thought, which has been serving Walton county school children for the past three years.Recently, Shelton and her organization made the commitment to expand into the Destin area, starting with Destin Elementary school in the upcoming school year.Knowing that, Beachy Beach 30A and Destin offices which recently pledged support to Food for Thought decided to use their grand opening celebration on June 25th as a vehicle to share Food for Thought's mission. With the help of the Destin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce, the event proved to be a huge success. Over 200 guests came and brought jars of peanut butter and jelly for the food drive and many made cash donations thanks to generous raffle prize donations like a weekend vacation from Destin Escapes Vacation Rentals and an IPAD mini from Setco Services.
Guests also enjoyed having a little wacky fun with a special photo booth provided by Tasiamade Photography and enjoyed many other treats thanks to businesses like: Employee Benefits Solutions, Veritas Appraisal Services, and Coastal Insurance. Delicious food provided, courtesy of the Synovus Mortgage Corporation who came out in full force. In just a couple of hours, nearly $2500 was collected in cash donations and over $1200 in food was collected, which was a great start for the move into the Destin area. But the work is certainly not done, Food for Thought depends on a very active volunteer base and will be looking to recruit volunteers for the efforts in Destin just as they have in Walton county.Beachy Beach Destin Real Estate and the participating businesses from last month's event hope that other businesses will jump on the band wagon and look for ways they can help as FFT tackles the needs of low income school children in our communities. Community members are welcome to drop off donations to the Beachy Beach Destin office at 200 Calusa Blvd, Suite 100.
