Some of The Heron Group took a very exciting drive late in the day to Seacrest Wolf Preserve. Less than an hour form Wild Heron, the preserve is located in rolling, wooded hills, not too far up Highway 79 just outside of Vernon.
The preserve is home to 22 wolves of three different breeds and include puppies. Arctic, timber and gray wolves have distinctive charactereistics and are equally beautiful.
We were led into individual fenced (10 feet high) areas for each pack. There they have land to roam with spring water ponds. We saw the man-made dens that the wolves personalized by digging further down in the earth. After a few minutes inside their enclosure, they were licking our hands and faces and rolling over for us to scratch their bellies? They even tried to steal our sunglases and cameras.
The admission fee is quite reasonable and well worth the two hours we were able to spend with the animals. This would be a great day trip for the whole family.
At the end of our visit, we left with the feeling of knowing why the wolves need our help. All of the nudges, kisses, and love they gave us will be long remembered. Linda Williams' brother, Harold said this was the most exciting thing he has ever done in his life and he will always remember this trip. He and all of us, will always remember our personal dances with wolves.
