The 11th Annual Duck Race was a total success. With the help from sponsorships, ticket sales, raffle items, bar sales and auction items we are proud to announce that $33,000 raised for Beach Care Services! Thank you, everyone, for giving so much of your time and expertise and for working so hard to make this event so successful. Debi Knight was an incredible leader for this year's event, and with the help of Lacey Phillips and committee showed their love for our community and helping others. Every year gets better and better. We have all heard rave reviews about this year's event. One local said, "the venue was fantastic, it was so nice to be able to see the pool and all the action taking place." Another said, "the food was excellent, such a variety!" Most of you all know how important it is to be active in your community and to help others. Broker, owner Karen Smith of Beachy Beach Real Estate has taken this to new levels but creating the first official scholarship. The Beachy Beach Community scholarship will be rewarded to a deserving student that excels in community service and that is a 2017 Bay County High School graduate with good academic standings. Karen Smith got a great idea to turn this event into a fundraiser. While celebrating our communities favorite football teams/colleges, guest of the event were asked to donate to the Beachy Beach Community Scholarship. Brothers of Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity at Troy University walked 128 miles to benefit Jeep Sullivan's Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures, a Bonifay-based nonprofit organization offering outdoor excursions to wounded warriors, veterans and first responders. The ATO Hard Walk began in 2010 and is becoming a well-established annual philanthropy project for the fraternity. The route through Alabama and into Bonifay, Vernon, Ebro and finally into Panama City Beach in Florida, a 128 mile walk. Each year the walk becomes more coordinated and the support is greater. This year Beachy Beach Real Estate is a very proud sponsor. We donated neon yellow head bands to the walkers not only to keep the sweat out of their eyes but to help be seen by traffic and others.
